Garraf Astronomical Observatory (OAG)

Introduction

Garraf Astronomical Observatory (OAG, Barcelona-Catalunya/Spain) maintains severals observational and research projects in collaboration with other national and international organizations. Following their historical tradition in 1976, the OAG is a nonprofessional center dedicated to the study of visual double stars. Their results are presented in meetings and international publications (USNO, SAF, Webb Society) periodically from 1993. The OAG coordinated the practices totality of the observations and measurements of visual double stars made in Spain by nonprofessional observers between the years 1990 to 2003, carrying out one complete revision of the results obtained by J.L.Comellas in his 1973.0 and 1980.0 catalogues. The measurements of this extraordinary observer were incorporated for the first time to the international files (USNO/WDS Project) after their inclusion in OAG General Catalog of 10.000 Measures (J.2000,0) published in 2003. One complete revision of each pair was necessary, adapting it to the requirements of the international coordinations.

The OAG Visual Double Star Project has been developed throughout more than 30 years, period in which they have participated a little group of nonprofessional observers of Catalunya, Spain, France and Germany. To all of them our gratefulness by its collaboration (Observer's Table). The following table summarizes the main stages of this project between 1976 to 2007.

The OAG team are extremely grateful to Dr.Brian Mason and his colleagues at USNO for his accurate revision of measurements and the electronic publication ofthe OAG Catalog and OAG Supplements on the USNO/WDS web site, and to Dr.Bob Argyle (Greenwich Observatory) fir his support in the definitive compilation and publication of the OAG Supplements in The Webb Society Double Star Section Circular.

Introducción

El OAG mantiene actualmente diversos programas de observación e investigación en colaboracion con otras entidades nacionales e internacionales. Siguiendo su tradición histórica iniciada en el año 1976, el OAG es un centro no profesional dedicado al estudio de las estrellas dobles visuales. Sus resultados se presentan periodicamente en reuniones y publicaciones internacionales (USNO, SAF, Webb Society) desde 1993.

El OAG coordino la practica totalidad de las observaciones y mediciones de estrellas dobles visuales realizadas en España por observadores no profesionales entre los años 1990 a 2003, efectuando una completa revision de los resultados obtenidos por J.L.Comellas en sus catalogos de 1973.0 y 1980.0. Las mediciones de este extraordinario observador fueron incorporadas por primera vez a los ficheros internacionales (WDS) tras su inclusion en el Catalogo OAG de 10.000 Mediciones (J.2000,0) publicado en 2003. Fue necesario una completa revisión de cada par, adaptándolo a los requisitos de las coordinaciones internacionales.

El programa desarrollado en el OAG se ha desarrollado a lo largo de más de 30 años, periodo en el cual han participado observadores no profesionales de Catalunya, España, Francia y Alemania . A todos ellos nuestro agradecimiento por su colaboración (Lista de observadores). La tabla siguiente resume las principales etapas de este proyecto entre 1970 y 2007.
